The Automated Gaze
Traffic Series
This series originates from images recorded by traffic cameras and surveillance devices, where the urban landscape appears blurred and partially indeterminate. These images, generated by automated recording systems, serve as a starting point for a painting that explores the distance between human visual experience and the way machines capture the world.
During the pictorial process, the original image is reorganized through color grids inspired by the screen's RGB structure and white strokes that evoke the movement of a digital cursor. Thus, the painting introduces a layer of manual interpretation over an automated capture system. The result is an unstable image, situated between recognition and dissolution, where the landscape is perceived as a fragment mediated by technology.
